Increasing the use of energy efficiency solutions in housing and public infrastructures

Closing Conference to showcase different technologies to increase the use of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions in housing and public infrastructures developed during the project.

On the 24th of August, Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme funded SMARCTIC project partners celebrated the closing conference of the project from the city of Sundsvall in County Västernorrland (Sweden) and streamed online to all project partners and their stakeholders regardless of their presence in Västernorrland.

Sofia Mackin from Regional Council of Västernorrland, welcomed participants to the conference and presented the agenda. Followed by our lead partner Anne Marie McLaughlin from the ERNACT network where she gave a short overview of SMARCTIC project.

The first speaker was Oskar Lindberg from Regional Council of Västernorrland, who talked about how does Region Västernorrland work with energy efficient buildings like hospitals or schools. Followed by Heather Young from Derry City and Strabane District Council (North Ireland) showcased the Virtual Power Plant developed to facilitate better overall energy usage by providing facilities managers with control of their buildings’ energy usage.

After that, Ragnar Ásmundsson from Orkusetur Energy Agency (Iceland) talked about their approach on utilizing integrated sensors and devices to improve indoor air conditions for children in their school environment, while maintaining sensible energy use and savings. Paul Early from Donegal County Council (Ireland) explained the stakeholder engagement to improve energy efficiency of public buildings. Providing external expertise in Internet of Things (IoT), installation of sensors.

At the end of the conference Sandra Åslin from Regional Council of Västernorrland shared the ICT-based energy management system for schools in Västernorrland. To finalise with Mattias O’Nils from Mid Sweden University who explained how they are using Internet of Things (IoT) to lower carbon footprint in the region.

We have to thank all the speakers for their brilliant presentations in the closing conference and our partner Regional Council of Västernorrland and Energikontoret Västernorrland for hosted the 2 Day event in Sweden!
