Challenging general public in Lapland to develop a community pilot!

New service contents by implementing technological solutions in Rovaniemi, with the SMARCTIC project.

SMARCTIC is taking a new innovative approach to reducing energy usage in the Northern Periphery and Arctic area. Partners from Lapland University of Applied Sciences (Finland) are currently engaging with the local community in order to develop a pilot that citizens consider necessary or relevant.

SMARCTIC is already adapting Smart City models and digital transformation technologies to involve citizens to help reduce energy usage in remote and rural areas. "The idea was to challenge general public to share their views about the pilot community", explains SMARCTIC project partner Hannu Korhonen. In that way, our partners have produced a video targeting a local community which uses Ounasvaara sport facilities in Rovaniemi and they suggest some possible ideas which involve ICT technologies.

Finnish partners aim to develop new service concepts and product ideas by taking environmental issues into consideration. Based on citizens specific needs, the areas in which they wish to implement pilot projects and technological solutions are Ounashalli football hall, Santasport Sport Center and Lappi Areena ice hall (Rovaniemi). To achieve this objective and aiming to engage with local communities, our partners have launched a local poll and a draw. Now, the ball is in their court!
