Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme funded SMARCTIC project partners had a study visit on the 23rd and 24th of August in the city of Sundsvall in Västernorrland (Sweden), hosted by the SMARCTIC partner Regional Council of Västernorrland and Energikontoret Västernorrland to discuss how best to increase the use of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions in housing and public infrastructures in remote, sparsely populated areas.
On the 1st day, SMARCTIC project partners met for 7th time to discuss project activities and progress in Sundsvall, County Västernorrland. After that attendees had the opportunity to visit Absolicon, the thermic solar system and production line. Their technology extracts energy from the sun and provides solar heating on both process and supply levels to supplement or replace current fuel.
On the 2nd day, project partners visited Sundsvall hospital, where there are using snow to run its cooling system. The technology greatly reduces both the energy consumption and the environmental impact of the hospital. 90 percent less energy is consumed in the cooling of the hospital facilities. After the visits, we celebrated SMARCTIC Closing Conference where we had the opportunity learn more about different technologies to increase the use of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions in housing and public infrastructures developed during the project, like Virtual Power Plants, indoor air quality sensors or energy management system in public buildings.
We have to thank all the speakers for their brilliant presentations in the closing conference and our partner Regional Council of Västernorrland and Energikontoret Västernorrland for hosted the 2 Day event in Sweden!
